an update

so, yesterday was the 4th (fave holiday!) and i completely failed on the whole picture taking deal.
but what a great day it was! woke up early, played some soccer, partied by the pool all day, ate some good food, then went and enjoyed a pretty awesome fireworks show with good friends and a cute boy ;)
(he may or may not be the reason why blogging and picture taking has slacked off as of late)

regardless, here are some pics from my phone (i'm still working on uploading camera pics)
pool time with friends!
sugarhouse fireworks
colorings from a cute boy for my office :)

plus, here's what else i've been up to, via pictures:

1. lagoon day with the office 2/3. art festival downtown 4. exploring downtown 5. tennis (watching mostly) 6. beautiful early morning sunrises

a quick review

as much as i love seeing matt bomer's face every time i check my blog, i'm sure you all are sick of it. so i'll try to update you all a bit on life.

i was going to do a cool picture update with fewer words, but then i realized that i didn't really have all that many pictures, and the ones i did have were all on instagram/facebook anyway. so just look there, i guess?

besides that though, you can rest assured that summer is in full swing. swimming has not happened yet, merely because pools are just barely opening, but days spent in the sun have been abundant, as have been a few Bees games, my own softball practices, soccer games, my first arena football game (not as exciting as i had hoped) and lots and lots of barbeques.

not to mention, i've been called as the activities co-chair in my ward, which means, i get the pleasure of planning ALL OF THE ACTIVITIES for my YSA ward. joys. but really. as stressed out as i may feel right now about it, i am pretty excited. i mean, they gave me control of what we get to do this year! (and seeing as we haven't had an activity except for our Christmas party since I've been here, things are about to change)

i'm working on planning this month's mingle, and next month's summer social, as well as other little activities here and there. so if i'm not around much, that's why.
so much for wanting to find a second fun job this summer.....my nights are completely consumed, what with FHE on monday, soccer wednesday, country dancing thursday (sarah and i have started going--it's so fun!), socializing fridays (aka movie nights, parties, etc), softball saturdays, and all of those fun church things on sunday, i rarely have time to myself these days. rough, right?

i actually love it though. but amongst all of that, i'm trying to plan for the future, save money, and find somewhere new to live once my lease is up the first of august. so prayers are completely acceptable right now and very much appreciated, so that i don't self destruct into a whimpering ball of nothingness.

oh, and can we say how excited i am for seven peaks to open on SATURDAY?! because i am. already planning on being there DAILY after work.

and the upcoming holiday should be epic, even with most of my friends out of town. why? because i get to have summer sno, and see pentatonix LIVE. yes. be jealous.

summer plans

today has been a very warm day. one of those days that you've been waiting for all winter long. the one that you know means that summer is very nearly here (especially in utah, where it snowed on friday, but was then gorgeous, sunny and warm saturday)

so with that, i've decided to write what i hope are my plans for the summer (though, let's be honest, without an actual summer now that i'm working full-time, it'll be a bit more difficult to manage than it used to be)

bees games (and raptors and owlz games)
trafalga (and subsequently, the batting cages)
seven peaks every.day.
more RSL games
motorcycle rides
(and learning how to ride a motorcycle...who wants to teach me?!)
re-learning spanish
camping trips
pool time/tanning time
trips to vegas/anywhere my little heart desires
hikes
boat trips
great salt lake/spiral jetty (this has been on my list for YEARS, who wants to help check this off??)
bike rides/longboarding
softball games as often as i can manage
dodgers baseball

if you're in salt lake, or even if you're not, and you wanna join me for any of these, let me know, i'd love to have a friend along :)

i need the smell of summer

...i need it's noises in my ears

and that's exactly what i got last night (at least more so than the earlier part of summer)
i love staying up late, not really caring what time it is because i'm enjoying my time with friends.
last night, i didn't particularly care that i had to be up at 6:30 to get ready for work.
i didn't really care that my body was already aching, and craving the warmth of my bed, and subsequently, sleep.
all i cared about was the time i spent with friends, the sounds of summer: voices carrying across the street, music playing, the rumble of my longboard's wheels carving (rolling) along the asphalt.
i cared about the view of the stars from the top of the wells fargo parking garage.
i cared about the un-awkward silence as i walked and nate biked.
i cared about the good times.

even though i'm not a good longboarder in the slightest, i loved just cruising down 200 east, i loved sledding down the parking garage grooving to music.
i loved everything about last night
minus my slight stupidity, but that's nothing new

i kind of wish i wasn't leaving in a week for salt lake, so i could spend the rest of the summer down here with friends.

"This is the place"

So my Utah trip was quite successful. I don't think anyone really wants to know the gory details. But i'll give enough to suffice. It was everything I could have asked for. Short enough that I didn't feel like I overstayed my welcome, yet long enough to get in most everything I wanted. I saw the people I wanted to, I felt good about the things I did, the things I said, I caused some drama, stayed up late, took late night swims, played volleyball, giggled, chatted, watched movies, ate good food, had great conversations and overall had an amazing weekend. So amazing in fact that I've decided to move back next month :) I know, I know. It's been a long time coming...I've been saying since I left that I was going back, but then things changed, and it didn't feel right, I needed to stay in California. This time was different though. My heart is healed, I've grown, and I feel like now is the right time to go. At the same time though, if things don't work out and I have to stay in California for a bit longer, that would be okay too. They are both the right paths for me.
So here are some pictures of my trip (more scenery than anything else)

Summer's ending soon...

Bittersweet. I love summer. And I forget how much I love it until it actually arrives. This last month (namely July) has been absolutely phenomenal. I almost forgot that I was still a full-time student. (Almost.) This next month (August) won't be quite as good, but I will be a college graduate. That's something to brag about, right?
Here are some pictures of what we've done lately. (click to enlarge)

weekend, you were good to me :)

this weekend was our california adventure.
the one i have been planning for the last two months.
it went off without a hitch, and in fact, exceeded my expectations in awesomeness :)

this is why i loved it:

stopped in vegas Thursday night for 2 hours.
watched the Bellagio fountain show.
ate in n out. twice.
slept in.
went to hollywood.
saw sarah and mo at their beautiful reception. enjoyed a fantastically overwhelming reunion.
got a new camera!
played GH with my best friend. :)
enjoyed zuma beach with the fam and mark.
dodger game with mark.
driving through LA at 11 at night, seeing the temple, the lights, the ocean.
took a nap.
welcomed home two missionary friends.
steak dinner with my family.
watched the sunset at the beach and looked at the stars.

i couldn't have asked for a better weekend. everything was perfect. now if i could only get the pictures we took from mark and kiana...

sweet sweet summertime

Well, I suppose it's time I actually updated this thing as opposed to just posting old pictures, huh? Unfortunately, you'll only get words, as my camera broke last month, so I haven't been able to take any of my recent endeavors. I should probably start using my polaroid camera again...I will. That'll be my goal for this week.
Spring term ended rather abruptly, people left and shortly thereafter, Summer term started. I feel like my time here is coming to an end faster than I would like it to. However, it has been a marvelous last few weeks and I wouldn't take them back for anything. Work has been keeping me pretty busy most nights, which isn't terrible, since I love my job, but it has put a damper on my social life. Not like I really hang out with anyone other than Mark, but still. I worked about 40 hours in two weeks (and remember, this is a part time job) and made pretty good money, so I can't complain about that. I also got to enjoy the rain, thunder/lightening and the rare sunshine that decided to grace us.
The ward held a pool party a couple weekends ago which was fabulous--kabobs, swimming, sunshine and friends. I couldn't have asked for a better afternoon. This past weekend though was fantastic. Chock full of activities and fun. I am lacking sleep now, but it was all worth it.
Friday Mark and I went to Old Navy to try and get me some shorts...I failed. But he grabbed some shirts, so it wasn't all in vain. Then we went to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house up in South Jordan. It was a beautiful temple (as they all are) but the wait was a lot longer than we had hoped or expected. It was all good though. The temple is worth it.
After the temple, I left to go to a rodeo in Oakley with a friend and his family. It was my first rodeo since I was a kid and it was all I could hope for. No injuries though, but entertaining enough.
Saturday, the 4th, the alarm went off a little too early for my liking, but a parade and free pancake breakfast with the ward was enough to get me going. It was insane, having all of Utah Valley lining the streets watching this parade. What was even stranger was having them all camp out the day before. Coming home late Friday night, I had never seen so many people out and about in Provo in my 4 years here. I couldn't believe it. However, even the rain couldn't damper people's spirits and we all stayed out there til the end. After the parade, Mark and I went and played volleyball with his roommate Jake and some of Jake's friends. We hit up Summer Sno and I converted Mark to the deliciousness of it and Tiger's Blood. Once back in Provo, we headed to the Elms pool for some sun time and water basketball. Then we went straight down to Center Street for the Freedom Festival and Truman's performance. Those boys never cease to amaze me with their talent and sound :) We walked around there, people watching, enjoying the sights, before heading home and crashing in Mark's AC'd apartment to watch a movie. We needed that downtime to cool off and relax after our busy morning. Right before we left to meet everyone for the fireworks, we picked up some pizzas and then joined up with the group to hang out, play music and watch the stadium of fire...WITHOUT paying. I would've liked to have been closer, but it ended up being alright. The company was good and even the rain didn't stop us from getting down with the music.
Overall the weekend was fabulous and I can't wait til we head home in a couple weeks for Sarah's wedding and a fun-filled California adventure!

summer is coming to an end

I leave for CA on Saturday. Early, may I add. Like, 8 am early. shoot me in the face.
I don't want to leave. I love this place. I've finally become comfortable in my surroundings, and have found friends to hang out with. Funny how life works out like that.
I finally went to the DC singles' ward last sunday...it was great. Truly. I loved the atmosphere, I loved how the church building sits right on the outskirts of the city, I love the architecture of it, I love everything about it, including the people. I even ran into Elder Wilcox there, who was my home teacher freshman year. I had completely forgotten he was serving out here. It was nice to see at least one familiar face in a roomful of about 200 strangers. This week I went as well and ran into another of my old freshman friends, this one was my neighbor, Heidi. Brought back good memories of that year. She told me all about her experiences in the Washington Seminar program. It made me want to do it all over again. We both leave on Saturday, sad about leaving this place, but excited about going back home to CA. Our discussion though made me decide that I AM coming back here next summer. I'm foregoing my decision to stay in Provo for the summer and coming back to the place that feels so right for me. I'll do my internship and get the credits I need to graduate on time. What a perfect solution. I'd rather be out here than in Provo anyway. Especially if I know I can go to the DC 2nd ward all summer long. :)
Now that I'm done working, I've gotta figure out what I want/need to do this week before I leave. I feel like I haven't done much, even though I know that's not entirely true. I'll find something to pass the time, I'm sure. No more sitting around being bored. Nope. I'm going to have an adventure.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!

I love the 4th of July...especially after this year's. Probably one of the best ones to date. It's the peak of summer. The weather finally feels like it should, school is out, fireflies and mosquitoes are out, and people are firing up their grills. The summer can only get better. And it will, I think. Everyday seems to go by faster though, forcing me to rush to the end, to the fall, when all I want to do is sit back and reflect on each and every day, to appreciate what could well be my last summer of my young life.
The week started crazy busy, with me working 3 14 hour days. Wednesday I got a slight respite by not having to work at Express, but all those hours, even with enough sleep, wore me out. By the time Thursday came around, I was ready for a break. But I had to get through my last 14 hour day. The only thing that made it worth it was the fact that I had a friend and two new friends waiting for me outside the mall when I got off work. Jay came down for the weekend with his good friend Mikey and his sister Lana. I'm pretty good about meeting new people, so it wasn't too hard for us three to be instant friends, especially when you're forced to :). We came home that night and sort of set up camp in Holden's room, where we would all be sleeping. We watched Madagascar, talked and got to know each other then crashed around 1 or so, even though we all thought we'd be up all night. Mikey was the first to rise Friday morning and proceeded to wake us all up so we could go to the city (it was his first time visiting DC so he was super stoked for it). After getting ourselves together, we finally managed to get to the metro station (thanks to my fabulous memory/sense of direction) and headed to the city. we arrived at the federal triangle stop to find hordes of people lining the streets...apparently they were waiting for the parade to start. After trying to figure out where we wanted to go, we headed towards the capitol, intending to make a loop around the National Mall. we made all the stops necessary for Mikey to enjoy his first trip to our Nation's Capital: Natural History Museum, the Capitol, the Air and Space Museum, the White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WW2 Memorial where we sat and enjoyed the cool water of the fountain since the humidity was almost unbearable, and the highlight (at least for Lana and I...) the National Archives, where we saw the Declaration of Independence, the whole reason for the Fourth of July, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and enjoyed the chills we got from seeing these important documents on the anniversary of our nation's independence. wow. what an experience that was. It had rained earlier that day so we were slightly wet when we decided we needed food, and REST. we were so tired from our marathon walking. we ended up at this great place called cosi where we spent a good hour just sitting. it was actually down the street from the White House which was really convenient. Anyway, because it started raining again, we ended up buying a couple umbrellas and a poncho for each of us to sit on once the fireworks started since uh, we forgot to bring blankets... hah. it ended up working out really well, so i guess it was worth it. Our spots on the mall were fantastic. Right near the Washington Monument and Reflecting Pool, so we saw everything and the fireworks? WOW. Best show I've seen. It was really the most amazing day ever. I've always wanted to spend the 4th in the nation's capital and now I have. And I never once got us lost hah. SCORE! After the show we walked up to Metro Center to catch the redline back to my house but stopped for the best pizza ever, and some delicious milkshakes, then sat on the sidewalk to enjoy them, letting the crowds thin out at the metro. Once we got back, we tried to watch National Treasure 2 but Lana passed out and I tried to fall asleep haha. Not very successful. This morning we woke up wayyyy later than planned and headed to Denny's for a late breakfast then went back through the city to get to Arlington National Cemetary. What a great end to a great weekend.

Now that we're all great friends (and we are, seriously) we're counting down the days til MEXICO!!! woo! haha totally cant wait for that trip :)

gone to pennsylvania again...

apparently i like pennsylvania because i was there again this weekend. but this time i went up to visit jason. pretty dang fun, not gonna lie. i think i really needed to do something like that...to hang out with a friend around my age again, instead of always being surrounded by adults or children, to be with someone that i KNOW, instead of trying to get to know someone.
i would post about what we did, but i'm so wicked tired right now, that i think i'll leave that for another day. or another hour. until then...

getting stuck in the mud....in the parking lot of a grocery store...and other unrelated stories

Yes, we got stuck in the mud in the parking lot of a grocery store outside of Lancaster, PA. How, you may ask?
Well, let me begin this story from where it makes sense...the beginning.
Memorial Day. May 26th. The Denyer Family (Steven, Carrie and Holden), their niece/cousin Kayla, and their uncle/brother/brother-in-law Tim all decide to drive to Gettysburg (very patriotic) and Hershey, PA for the day. The day starts out smoothly with a short easy drive to Gettysburg where the whole crew gets out into the beautiful, warm sunshine and enjoy the newly refurbished museum that was packed and long. (It actually was pretty cool...I would've spent more time looking at everything if there weren't so many people there that day). Rather than drive or walk the 2 hours it would take to experience the entire battlefield, the group decides to drive through downtown Gettysburg (the cutest little town EVER! next to my other favorite, Alexandria, VA) where the townsfolk were lining the streets getting ready for the annual Memorial Day Parade. They drive for a while longer through the gorgeous countryside of central Pennsylvania (I seriously LOVE the east coast for how green and lush everything is!) and finally arrive in Hershey. Yes. THE Hershey, home to Hershey chocolate factory and park. They walk towards the famous Chocolate World to the sounds of child's playtime music, getting more and more excited every step. The first stop is the "tour" of Hershey's factory. It's almost like the "It's A Small World" ride at Disneyland, only with cows. and chocolate. and the sweet sweet smell of chocolate wafting through the ride, tickling one's tastebuds and nose. The three sweetest cows, Harmony, Gabby and Olympia, sing of how the chocolate is collected and made into "HERSHEY'S MILK CHOCOLATE." Remnants of childhood days attending Chuck E Cheese bore through the participants' memories. After leaving the ride, the group recieves two pieces of Hershey's Bliss chocolate, chocolate that literally melts in one's mouth. Quite delectible. And as good marketers know, the way to gain more customers is to place its store at the end of its one and only indoor ride. Smart people. Wandering through the rows and rows of chocolate-kisses, hugs, kit kats, mauna loa macademias (my personal favorite), the classic chocolate bar-one can't help but begin to salivate for the delicious taste of chocolate on their tongue. After finding the world's largest chocolate bar AND kiss (with pictures to boot) the group is on their way to the Hershey museum where they learn of Milton S. Hershey's legacy. Of the KISStory of Hershey's kisses and of the famous HersheyPark, which this group was not able to experience for themselves :( (Carrie is 8 months pregnant and unable to ride anything, and Holden is 3, too young and small to ride either, so the decision was made that it wasn't worth the money to go inside). After another jaunt through the "cow ride" as Holden put it, the group was on their way to the famous Smart Shopper grocery store, where Carrie was eager to buy extremely cheap groceries and sweets (as if they didn't already have enough from the Hershey store). Now this is where the excitement begins. Once pulling off the road and making it into the parking lot of this previously mentioned store, Carrie and Steven realized there were no cars there, so the store was either out of business or closed early for the holiday. The fact that there were HUGE piles of dirt in the middle of the parking lot, covering the majority of the light poles it surrounded, added to this sense of permanent closure. After futher inspection however, the adults realized the store had closed early, in fact only an hour before. For shame. Steven, the ever enthusiastic off-roader with his Toyota FJ Cruiser, decided to take the family for an adventure through the dirt piles so placed in the lot. Instead of taking a "path" that Carrie saw earlier, he decided to take another less traveled road. (FYI, young Holden was asleep during all of this and only awoke once his head started bashing the side of his car seat). Halfway into the so called path, Steven realized it did not go through to anything and that there was a huge puddle of mud. But he believed in his truck and thought it strong enough to make it through the puddle of water and mud and back out again. However, once moving forward, the group heard a siren, a loud police siren that was getting louder by the moment. Were the police patrolling the area? Were they about to cite poor Steven for his mere adventureness? Steven quickly stopped the car, thus forcing it to become stuck in the thick puddle of mud he believed his car could handle. Alas (or luckily, however you'd like to see it) the police siren died away as it drove into the distance. Steven then tried to drive the car forward, only to find out that it was indeed stalled, at least for a moment. Tim offered to get out to direct it, but Steven was positive he didn't need it. Needless to say, Tim got out, as did Carrie, to witness the extreme dilemma Steven had gotten them all into. Carrie, at 8 months pregnant, should not have had to go through this stress. Tim, as her brother, was worried she would give birth then and there. Kayla and the unbeknownst Holden, were still in the car. Kayla was laughing hysterically as Steven manuevered the car forward and back, trying to get the car unstuck. Bouncing up and down and side to side, it was at this moment that young Holden was jolted awake, almost like a parent in an earthquake, to find his cousin laughing at the hilarity of the situation and his father struggling to keep the car straight, but keeping his composure all the same. Once freed from the mud's tightening grasp, Carrie and Tim returned to the vehicle to inform Steven of his perilous plight and of how the mud was literally up to the top of his tires. Backing out of said parking lot, the group continued on their way, onto a place called Lancaster, PA, where the Amish people roam free and cities are named Intercourse. Yes, Intercourse. (Again, pictures to follow). The car, after being put through all of that stress, had a difficult time manuevering the highway, throwing mud everywhere and shaking from side to side. Yes, the alignment was indeed off. Alas, such is life. Once on the 30 in Lancaster County, the group drove and drove, looking for what, Kayla was not sure. All she knew was the area was beautiful but unusual. They passed through Paradise and Almost Paradise, almost into Coatesville, when they realized they were not where they were meant to be and not a sight of Amish had been seen. Turning around and driving back the way they came, they finally established their lostness. Never once had this happened...Carrie had the whole trip mapped out and was very sure of where she thought she was. However, something had gone wrong and the group was not where they wanted to be. They finally stopped at the PA Dutch restaurant Good N Plenty, thinking it was the place Carrie and Steven remembered from their last trip, but it was not. So they got back in the car and continued driving, trying to remember where it was. Kayla fortunately had a friend that lived there and he suggested places, but Carrie and Steven could not remember the name of that restaurant so Aaron's help was futile. So the group carried on, back to their state of Maryland through the back roads and heavy rain and lightening. Most fell asleep on the drive back, only to be awoken when they stopped outside the city of Germantown for food at the Cracker Barrel, where the food was so so and the service, minimal. They learned then that they should not try to do so many things in one day because in the end, they all ended up tired and cranky. THE END.

HAHA. wow that was fun. if it was long, I apologize, but it was the only way i could think to describe the antics of monday. wow. what fun. Again, I'd post pictures, if only my computer were working. Eventually they'll be up.
On another note...I finally got a job. I'm working at Express and am pretty excited/nervous about it. The girl I trained with, Alex, seems cool, so it'll be nice to have a friend out here finally. I trained today and then finish Monday. After that, I'm not sure how it'll be. Jason is coming down tomorrow night to pick me up and take me back to PA Saturday morning, where I'll be until Sunday. Pretty excited for that. I'm sure it'll be fun. I'll post more about my adventures as they come so that you don't have to read insanely long posts anymore :)

really quick update

so, it's been a week since my last post and let's just say things are going much better. i still don't have a job, but at least i'm enjoying myself a lot more than i was. mostly i've been running errands with my aunt carrie and cousin holden, but at least i get out of the house and can see what germantown has to offer. i had another job interview on friday, but i haven't gotten a response yet from that...probably next week. the excitingness of this past week have been: huge sunday dinner last sunday with a bunch of people from the ward, carrie's dance class, watching SYTYCD a day late at the Honeycut's with April and Carrie, IKEA to shop for new storage things, BWI airport to pick up Carrie's annoying older brother (ugh), Indiana Jones with the largest cup of Dr. Pepper I have ever seen, Five Guys burgers and a DC United game with my uncle Steven (we won, 3-2 vs Toronto....sorry all my Canadian readers hah), then buying ice cream at Safeway at 11 at night since everything else was closed ("there's always room for ice cream"....I agree....), then a Krispy Kreme run tonight with free fresh glazed donuts, pie and ice cream for dessert. ("we're gonna turn you into a fat kid"..."i already am...") oh. the joys. i think the best was going to five guys and ordering their "regular" burger which is actually two slabs of meat on a bun and eating the ENTIRE thing after my uncle told me "good luck". needless to say he was pretty impressed with my eating capabilities. then i ate all of dinner tonight--stuffed chicken, salad and pasta. PLUS i mentioned that i was going to go to KK with Carrie (and he understood why) and then came home and ate pie and ice cream as well. he can't beat me. i dominate. :)
oh but wait, the highlight was definitely today after church...we drove down the street from their house to this park to take pictures on a bridge because they wanted to replace the pictures in their frames. all was well for a while...i walked around in my high white heels with my sunglasses on and my phone out in front of me while i texted....then i put my phone in my camera case but forgot to zip it up so as i leaned over, my phone fell out, hitting the bridge, breaking apart (mostly the battery popped out) and falling into the river below. luckily the river was shallow and not moving much. but i threw off my shoes and ran to the bank of the river to try to retrieve it. my uncle just laughed at me. i almost fell in, wearing my nice church dress, splashed all over the place and was the perfect candidate for my uncle's photography skills. i was able to get my phone back but it is currently out of commission for the time being as it dries out. pray that it works again because if it doesn't, well, then i don't know what i'll do, seeing as i have to either fix or buy a new computer. *sigh* bad luck seems to be on my tail at the moment...
however, tomorrow will be an adventure as we travel to the great state of pennsylvania: Hershey Park, Gettysburg, Lancaster (i'd go visit Aaron, IF my phone was working to call him and IF he didn't just have hand surgery...), and some other places...not quite sure where or why. after PA, i'm not sure where else we'll go. all i know is I'm either going back there next weekend to hang out with Jason or he's coming here to compete in my uncle's annual foosball tournament. should be an interesting week :)

[no pictures can or will be posted for some time. that is only because of the fact that my computer is out of commission and i don't want to fill up my uncle's with my pictures. however, rest assured that i have some and they will be posted as soon as possible]

summertime

Summer has started. I love being home and not having any responsibilities. The weather is a little trippy though...sunny and warm one day, cloudy and cold the next. :( Kind of a bummer, but I know I'll get enough heat and humidity to last me a lifetime starting Sunday. I guess I shouldn't be complaining about California.
Here are some pictures documenting what I've done so far: (I've done a lot of guitar hero, but that hasn't been documented...just know that it's happened)Beach trip with Nell to watch the sunset

Sitting on the lifeguard tower...one of my favorite things to do

Beach day. Zuma 14.

Sister's high school dance concert...bonding with the brother.

Breakfast with the bestie! (I'm her maid of honor!!)

summer plans

Did I ever mention that I'm moving to the east coast this summer? Well, I am. Germantown, MD to be exact. I'm living with my mom's youngest brother, who is 12 years my senior, and his wife Carrie who is pregnant, about to give birth in June, and their (for the time being) only son, Holden. I seriously cannot wait. I've been looking forward to this since I discussed it with Steven months ago, and now I can't believe how close it actually is. I'll leave May 11th (Mother's Day, what a bummer, eh?) and will stay until August 16th. 3 full months! I'll spend time with them, with my grandparents (neither of which I've seen since I've started college) and my mom's older brother, Larry and his family, once they move back to the states from the Netherlands. oooh, I can't wait.
Another plus, is that my BEST FRIEND and best BIG BROTHER, Brent, gets home July 31st!!! I talked to his mom last week and there's FINALLY a date set. His homecoming talk is August 10th, so I'll at least get to see him before I fly home and then move back to Utah. This summer is already looking up to be one of the best ones. True, I won't have any friends with me, but I'll have my extended family there, and we already have some plans for FUN. Steven got us tickets to the LA Galaxy/DC United soccer game the day that Carrie is due (smart, I know) and that first weekend, we're going to the Outer Banks, NC!! They do this every summer and every summer I'm jealous that we're so far away and can't participate. But I finally get to go! And I've always wanted to go to North Carolina.
Aaron will be in PA this summer, so will Jason, and according to some other people I know, a lot of their friends will be in the DC area. I'm hoping to get a job at the Gaithersburg Park and Rec, doing exactly what I'm doing now, because I know I'll enjoy it and I'll meet people. Maybe I'll even get to go to the singles' ward out there and meet some cute boys ;) I can only hope...
Every time someone finds out I'm going there, they ask me why. I can't give them a straight answer, but all I know is I need a change of scenery, out of the Bubble and away from California, where there's not a lot left for me. And the east coast is definitely somewhere I love to be.
