a new appreciation

it took me 23 years but i've finally learned to appreciate mothers, all mothers in general and mine specifically.
i don't give mine enough credit for all the things she did for us kids growing up, and being a single parent at that.
i finally understand that being a mom is not an easy task. especially not when you're on your own raising them.
makes me realize how much of a brat i was for not making things easier for her: not doing my chores, or complaining while doing them, being a lazy bum, etc.
working all day and then coming home to a messy house and having to clean that, plus make dinner, plus help kids with homework? it's exhausting. and frustrating.
so to my mother: thank you for putting up with us. thank you for: cleaning the kitchen despite you asking one of us to do so multiple times and us failing to complete that simple task, for making dinner even after working 9+ hours a day, for trying so hard to make our house look presentable, for still loving us despite our faults and our laziness.
i'm going to try to do better the next time i'm home, so that maybe one day, i can come close to paying you back.
(and i'll pray that my kids come out better than i was, though i doubt that'll happen)

  1. You're making me cry! You're an awesome daughter and I wouldn't trade you for the world! I love all my chillins, with all their strengths and imperfections. It's the imperfections that make life fun and interesting. Love you!! xoxoxo

  2. Dude ya. Especially after seeing how freaking hard it is with just two kids and two parents. But I honestly don't think we were that bad (probably thanks to being afraid of our father) cuz these kids are brats and we never wouldve gotten away with half the stuff they do. Just sayin.
