i chose many years ago (okay, more like, junior/senior year of high school) what path i was going to follow, what direction i was going to go in life. at the time, it seemed like a great idea. i'd go to college, graduate with honors, go on to law school, become a lawyer, and then get into politics. i started out on that path in good shape. i was excited about it, i was passionate about the career i had chosen and i enjoyed the beginning political science classes that i was taking. then slowly, as i progressed into harder classes, that vision i had faded from view and i questioned my reasons for staying where i was. why shouldn't i choose an easier path? one that would have more opportunities at the end? one of the reasons why i haven't backed down is i feel like i'm too far into my major right now to be able to turn back and start over and still graduate in four years. but then every now and then i'm reminded of the passion i held for politics and the profession of law.
i read cnn.com every morning. mostly because i have nothing else to do. and mostly because i am interested in what's going on in the world around us. (plus it helps to be informed. makes you sound more scholarly, intelligent, less ignorant in arguments) on the law side, i find some interesting cases. most of the time i just read them to be reading them. on the politics side however, it's not quite as interesting to me. mostly stuff about the current administration and other mundane things that i can't possibly begin to comprehend.
however, this morning, i found an article about an anti-war activist being arrested when calling for bush and cheney to be impeached. http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/07/23/sheehan.impeachment.ap/index.html
just reading through it brought up so many points that i wanted to argue against. i kind of got worked up over it and almost said something in protest to it out loud. how embarrassing that would have been, at work and all. but it sparked something in me and it showed me that the path that i chose all those years ago and which i have continued to follow is indeed made for me.
even watching the democratic debate the other night, i sat there in disbelief at the things they were saying, thinking, how ignorant can they and others be?? it solidified my goal of running for president, eventually. people make politics more dramatic and outrageously difficult than i think it needs to be.
plus, i just like arguing my points and making other people see my side of the story.
