when people learned that i was moving back to provo, they jumped on the chance to get me to play city league/intramural sports. so i'm playing on an indoor coed soccer team, and on an all girls flag football team. fun, right? {should be, minus the cost to play, and the potential to get hurt and not have insurance to pay for it}
well, our first flag football game was last week. we won. the other team just didn't show up. easy win. starting out the season undefeated. i like this. luckily i love football, so i spent our game time watching other teams {aka, competition} and then proceeded to watch my boys' team's game, which fortunately, was right after my game. oh how badly i want to coach them. but that's beside the point.
tonight was {my} first soccer game. they had already played a few. i had played a few times this summer, not seriously, of course, just with kids from the singles ward on wednesday nights. and you know, i played growing up, so i've still got the moves. however, what i don't got is the stamina to keep up with the speed and intensity of the game.
sure i could bust out some sweet footwork, but could i play both 20 minute halves? hell no.
which is why i have this post in the first place, to get my butt into gear and into shape so that i'm not the one sitting on the sideline, trying to breathe and trying not to show the pain i'm in. dance won't help me. the only thing that will is running. and i loathe running. sure sure, i ran cross country in high school {for one year} and i did track {for three years, but only field events. and the occasional 4x400} but it changes when you get older. you can't run the way you used to, or the way you think you should be able to. i'm in dancer shape, but not in soccer shape. so, starting tomorrow, i'm going to the track and running endurance sprints. if i die, i love you all.
