bucket list (kind of)

last night i had the opportunity to go to a concert of one of my most recent favorite bands, imagine dragons. thanks to steve for introducing them to me. i'm seriously OBSESSED.
now, i'm a pretty big concert-goer. i mean, the amount of shows i've been to in the last few years has dwindled, but once upon a time, i went a LOT. with that being said, i'd like to think of myself as an expert on concerts: when to arrive, how to manage crowds, etc. but with all of that experience, never have i gone to a concert, ALONE.
until last night. maybe it's my recent reclusiveness, or my living solo in a big city, but i bought my ticket not planning on having anyone else come with me. typically i would get a friend or two to go before buying a ticket, or, buy two and invite someone to come with, but not this time. i encouraged friends to get tickets after i had bought mine, but by the time they attempted, the show was sold out. so i was left flying solo. luckily, the show was just down the street from me, which meant that i was able to walk there and back, no need to hassle with driving and parking in the city (a first in all of my years of attending concerts).
what was great about this one too though, was being there alone. sure, it had it's low points (listening to some not-so-good opening (HIGH SCHOOL) bands and the high school girls that were screaming; not being able to chat with anyone for 2 hours and complain about how annoying they were) but really, as i stood there, i realized that i had done something that i didn't realize was on my bucket list: i had gone to a show by myself. (and last year's twilight concert for lupe fiasco doesn't count, even though i did go alone, i was planning on meeting people there. that fell through last minute-miscommunication and all)
i've always had friends that told me they went and saw a move alone, and i thought, i should do that, but never have, because i feel like that's pathetic (which i still want to do, by the way) but i've never considered going to a concert alone. safety and all that, you know. but it was refreshing.
typically at shows i get separated from my friends anyway, so this shouldn't have been any different. but it was nice not having to worry about losing anyone, or needing to find anyone afterwards. i came in alone, danced and rocked out by myself, and then left when it was over, with no concern for who i needed to leave with.
plus it was great to be able to walk 5 minutes home, and getting back at a reasonably decent hour.

but oh, how fantastic the show was in and of itself! such a great band, so energetic, so.....awesome. it definitely falls into if not my top 5, then at least top 10 shows ever. if you haven't heard them, go listen to them! their EP continued silence is on itunes. and if you really like them, i've got their first two EPs at home, i'll let you take a listen.
and, the lead singer is mormon, and attended BYU. that's gotta count for something, right? :)
